Spotlight a Zoom participant when streaming via OBS?

Hi!

Context
We're using OBS & Zoom to broadcast live workshops (or "webinars") in our Community. Our workshop mostly consists of the host talking to participants in Zoom: she shares videos, images, and we have a bunch of overlays to match our branding. For that reason, we're using OBS as the video source in Zoom (using NDI) so OBS ----> Zoom. During that phase, participants are muted.

What we want
At the end of the workshop, we want to have a Q&A session where participants can ask questions to the host directly. We want the 2 persons speaking to be side-by-side: the host on the left, and the participant on the right. Our workshops are broadcasted weekly and we all work remotely in the company. So we need a solution that can be set up and saved once, and doesn't require too much configuration each week.

The issue
I don't know how to set up the scene efficiently. Or how to pin the person in Zoom to make it work in OBS. I can obvious not show the host as it would create an infinite loop.

I was thinking that the host could switch her video source to Camera in Zoom during the Q&A and then switch back to NDI for the final OBS scenes. But it seems impossible. (Note that I'm on PC but the host will be on a Mac) Every time I try, I get an error message from NDI. I can't switch video sources or I have to restart Zoom.

Have you ever had to deal with a similar case? Do you have any pieces of advice to share? Any ideas? Recommendations?

I've heard of OBS Ninja but I have 2 problems with that solution:
- The interface is terrible. Most of our customers are not tech-savvy at all. There's no way we can send them such a link and not expect the participation rate to drop.
- On Windows, you can't use your webcam in several programs at the same time (unless you're tech-savvy!) So, since these people are already using their cameras in the Zoom meeting, we would need to ask them to leave Zoom to join the OBS Ninja link. No. That just can't happen for the same reason listed above.

I also know that Skype allows to retrieve a NDI stream from each participant that can be sent to OBS, and that seems to be the ideal solution. But as far as I know, that feature is not available in Zoom. And no, we can't use Skype for that project.

Thank you!

Sounds like you want to grab a single remote camera by itself instead of all of them. Does Zoom do that?

You can probably set it to show the person talking, but that's only reliable if everyone else is muted.

At any rate, I think it's a Zoom problem, not OBS.

In Zoom:
Open the participants in gallery view on the second monitor (if you have one) making it easy to see all or most of the participants when sportlighting.
With host in speaker view sportlighted for all, select a participant you wish then right click and select sportlight video. To remove, right click the video again and select remove sportlight.
