Fooling around, added a scene, added a couple display captures to it, tinkered with the settings, then deleted the new scene, and it popped up the display capture preferences with static-y image and stopped responding to input. I had to force-quit it. I didn't have the presence of mind to get a crash log (I'm not sure if I even had the option, given that I force quit), and I haven't been able to reproduce it, so sorry if this isn't very helpful.
