I also have this issue on Fedora 37. My VLC appears to have been installed via Flathub, and in trying to rectify this issue, I tried re-installing OBS via Flathub (as that appears to be a/the recommended method for my distro, which I wasn't using somehow--I had a version through RPM, I guess?), but it still doesn't show up for me. Am I missing a step, or is it supposed to be as easy as "just install both programs and make sure they're from the same source"? Should I have not used the Flatpak, stuck with my non-Flatpak install, and reinstalled VLC instead?

I did some digging earlier this week and it seems like the functionality may have been removed for dependency conflicts, but the info comes from a couple of threads from Arch forums and one thread on here: link

All I wanted to do was just be able to add VLC as a source so I could play music in the background. Is there a good solution I should use instead, like NDI?

My software versions:
Fedora 37
OBS 28.1.2
VLC 3.0.18
