New to OBS. Recording music and want to use Automatic Scene Switcher, can’t find any step by step tutorial.

My set up is just 2 cameras (2 scenes?) and I want to be able to play the guitar and for OBS to simply switch from one scene (camera angle to the other). I can’t seem to find anything online other than how to use the advanced scene switcher, which I don’t want to get into yet, at least until I’ve got this basic automatic scene switcher figured out...Any help is much appreciated.

Not sure what you want to do. Switch cameras at a predetermined interval?

From this thread:
"The Automatic Scene Switcher, as @koala mentioned, is to associate a Windows application window with a scene. This allows OBS to automatically change your scene when you open/set focus to a Windows application. This can be useful if/when you have one scene for video games and another for a text editor (for example). OBS can automatically switch from your video game layout to your text editor layout when you switch applications."

Yes. I guess I was hoping it would simply change back and forth from one camera angle to the other. As I can't find any information on it, I don't know how to get it to work and/or if there is a way to set it to change after a certain period of time. There's a demo here :(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcNqe7OmEs0&t=78s), showing what I want it to do but no explanation of how to achieve this. Appreciate your help with this.

Thanks R&B, it looks like a really good plug in but doesn't seem to want to work with my MacOS. I'll keep trying to figure out the built in Automatic Scene Switche.r

Thanks Lawence, appreciate your support. I was just hoping to use the Auto Scene Switcher built into OBS as I'm seriously challenged with technical stuff!

Adv. SS is probably your best bet though, if you're looking for a timed sequence. It's really not hard to learn.

The problem that I usually see from "non-technical" people, is that they come up with the most Rube-Goldberg solutions to things that could have been done directly with a tool that they refuse to touch. And they wonder why technology has to be so confusing...

For simple timed Sequence in Adv SS, turn off the check box to hide Tabs covered by Macros. There is a Tab for Timed actions (forget then name at the moment... in screen shots earlier in this thread) .. it works easy peasy for me (as well as a few other options I use).
I fully respect 'keep it simple'.. but the native Auto SS was too limited for me. One can get quite sophisticated with AdvSS, but you don't have to. It doesn't take being technical (though being logical really helps)

Here is an example of Sequence and timing I use and that is very easy to configure in Adv SS
- The stream provider I use limits default streams to that platform's users. But if one uses a Scheduled Live Event, then I get a consistent URL that anyone can watch at that provider incl Smart TVs, etc (though only logged on users can comment). For my use case, this is fine. So I use Adv SS to:
- change to OBS Scene at scheduled time to my Initial Scene which becomes my video thumbnail. AdvSS is also configured to start local Recording (so I have higher quality recording than highly compressed video on my channel video library at stream provider
- Then, as we have Copyright music as part of our stream, after 40 seconds of thumbnail, switch to copyright slide, then a few seconds later switch again to countdown slide (using a countdown timer).
- Then we have a standard fullscreen intro video that plays, and when the video ends, auto switch to Live Camera scene
- I use Exeldro's Media Control plugin to monitor time left on video

I then have different Scenes/layouts I manually switch between (but you could automate)... or you could set up a pedal board type system to manually trigger scene switches??

I then have an ending sequence, fade to black, etc. It is a 3 Scene sequence, if I recall correctly. I pick the start Scene of the sequence, then AdvSS steps through the scenes on a timer, and ends recording/stream as last step

I strongly recommend creating a logo/watermark to use on your video

I think you are referring to the old "Sequence" [LD or Time] tab. You can still use it if you like, but I won't add any features to it.
In case it is hidden you can show it again by unchecking this box on the General tab:
Hide

If you instead want to use macros have a look at this example:
IF the AdvSS Macros are intimidating, starting with the older Tab options might be a more guided way to start

Thanks Lawrence, I really appreciate the time you've spent explaining all this. When I tried to download it I got a message "cannot be opened...unidentified developer" . Am I right in thinking this is normal with Mac and I just ignore the warning and download anyway?

That would be a good question for Adv. SS's thread:
I don't think that one has come up yet.
