Minecraft: Java Edition Troubleshooting

If Minecraft: Java Edition isn't showing in your Game Capture Source (Windows-only), this is usually because Minecraft: Java Edition is not running on the appropriate GPU on a multi-GPU system. If you have a laptop, all-in-one computer, or your desktop CPU contains both integrated graphics and discrete graphics, you need to specify that Minecraft should run on your high performance GPU.

1. Switch OBS Studio to Use the High Performance GPU

  • Before you continue, make sure that OBS Studio is also using the high performance GPU. You can find instructions on the GPU Selection Guide.

2. Capture Specific Window

  • Set the Game Capture Source mode to "Capture specific window", and select javaw/Minecraft in the "Window" drop-down
  • Close OBS Studio and Minecraft: Java Edition

3. Open Windows Settings

  • Close OBS Studio before you start
  • Either click here
  • or
    1. Open the Windows Settings App (Start button → Cogwheel icon)
    2. Navigate to System → Display → Graphics Settings (near the bottom)

4. Set Java to Use the High Performance GPU

  • Choose "Classic App"/"Desktop App", then click Browse. Navigate to and select one of the paths from the table below.
