you guys might need to do some port forwarding from your router if you can't connect to the server.

also, try going live with your phone while connected to the router and see if that works.. though the ports might be different when going live from a phone vs from a computer.

Port forwarding is ABSOLUTELY NOT necessary for streaming to facebook.
Streaming is an outbound TCP connection.
If you needed port forwarding for it, you would need port forwarding for basic web browsing.

Facebook's current recommendations/limits have changed from the recommendations in this guide. They now allow:
  • Max video bit rate 4000Kbps
  • 240 minute maximum length
They also seem to recommend:
  • CBR
  • Audio bit rate: 128 Kbps
  • Audio sample rate: 44.1 KHz

Their spec pages can't seem to agree on whether the audio should be mono (1-channel) or stereo (2-channel). These two pages also suggest mono:
They also seem to recommend using the RTMPS URL for streaming. I have not tested this with OBS Studio though.

A bit of a follow-up...

Apparently you can also stream for unlimited lengths of time with their "Continuous Live Video" option:
A continuous live stream supports a stream of unlimited duration. Use cases for continuous live include live feeds of aquariums, museums, and zoos. (Before streaming using continuous live, please note that continuous live streams do not generate VOD, and do no not send notifications to followers.).

You can also stream as a regular user instead of a Page, though it seems to require a bit of fiddling via the API.

According to Facebook, you can ONLY use OBS to stream to a business page, NOT a personal page.

Your phone/mobile devices/webcams attached to your PC/laptop will work as a standalone capture device when connected directly to the FB application.

Hope this helps...

How can I do a 2-Way interview on Facebook Live using OBS? (the 2 people are in different locations). I haven't found any information on how to do this. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that Facebook Live, the live broadcasting feature, is not designed for this by itself. If you just entered a regular Facebook Video Call, then you could probably capture that, and then you might be able to use OBS to broadcast that to Facebook Live. I haven't tested this though, so I'm just guessing. You might get a better quality 2-way interview video with software designed for conferencing (e.g., Skype, Discord).

Update to the guide. This section is now outdated:
Important: The Server URL and Stream Key can only be used for a single Live preview/post connection. You must use the same URL and key to preview and post. That is, you cannot preview, stop the stream, and then resume at a later time. The URL and Key also expire 24 hours after creation or 4 hours within the preview.

According to Facebook's docs:
Important: The Server URL and Stream Key can only be used for a single Live preview/post connection. You must use the same URL and key to preview and post. That is, you cannot preview, stop the stream, and then resume at a later time. The URL and Key are valid for 7 days. Once you preview the video, you have up to 5 hours to go live. If you need more time, create a new stream key closer to the event time.

If your FB live connection is not working and it says cannot connect to server (I went through long troubleshooting with Apple and OBS to find this out):

1) Try a different browser to generate your stream key. I usually use Chrome, but after installing Flash, and using Safari, I didn't receive an error. Try your OS's stock browser

2) Go to OBS Settings > Advanced > Network. Click the dropdown menu and click the one that contains an IPv4 address such as 192.168.xxx.xx

3) Try switching your colorspace as suggested by MNix

4) Go to the OBS Community Chat (link at the very top of the page) and ask your question. Very helpful folks over there! Your problem will be solved there.

5) Try to contact Facebook, and see what they say.

If all this doesn't work: try a different software :(

I keep running into a weird issue. I turn on my stream (studio version) and facebook will show me the preview and it's working. However, when I click the "Go Live" button there are times where it tells me that I can't stream to it. It seems real random because it will work one day then the next it won't and I'm not changing any of my settings (with the exception of updating the Stream Key). I'm using Restream.io to stream to 2 twitches, facebook and youtube. The other 3 work fine every time but FB is being obtuse at moments.

Settings:

Encoder: x264
Rescale Output: 1280x720 (also set as that in Video tab)
Rate Control: CBR
Bitrate: 3500 (since that's the max for Twitch I believe)
Keyframe Interval: 2
Audio Bitrate: 128
Audio Sample Rate: 33.1khz
Downscale Fitler: Lanczos
FPS: 30
Renderer: Direct 3D 11

Here is a copy of my log file. I do notice there are a few modules it says "Failed to Load" and I've even reinstalled OBS a few times now and still seem to get them.

Also I was curious if I can use my H264 Encoder or if that's not compatible with FB?

Thank you.

Currently OBS has no option to stop streaming after a video finished its playback as far as I know.
